We invite you to select from five roundtable topics. Registrants
should rank the topics in order of preference on their registration
forms. Every effort will be made to ensure that registrants are
able to participate in their top three choices.
Participants should be prepared to ask questions and share ideas
on the topics. If you have resources to share, please bring 15 copies
per item.
--A Palette of Ideas -- Improving your Web Site
Discussion Leader: Eileen Severson, Gunderson Lutheran
Get a fresh take on your home page while taking a look at everyone
else's! Are you looking for fresh ideas for your site, or willing
to share some good ideas you're already using? Maybe it's a little
of both. Discuss navigation, labeling, graphics, and other design
concepts with your peers. Each participant should bring color screen
shots of their home page for sharing at the table. Contact cynthia.larson@aurora.org
if assistance is needed in obtaining color images.
--Mastering the New Medium of Electronic Document Delivery
Discussion Leader: Charniel McDaniels, GMR
Did you know NLM now charges $9 for a PDF e-mail rather than $12
for a fax? Can you send PDF's from your library? There are many
new possibilities, and several old ones for automating document
delivery. Learn what other libraries are doing with document delivery
to provide better quality and faster service.
--Sculpting Your Collection with E-only Acquisitions
Discussion Leader: Alfred Kraemer, MCW Libraries
Have you dropped print books or journals in favor of online? Online
journals certainly take up less shelf space, and are not 'borrowed'
for extended periods of time. However, they do come with their own
set of risks, including changing license agreements, connectivity
issues, and concurrent user restrictions. Share lessons learned
and successes from your library and listen to the future plans of
others.
--Brushing Up on Copyright
Discussion Leader: Tomas Lipinski, J.D., LL.M., Ph.D., University
of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
So, you're paying attention to the rule of 5, and you've posted
notices by your copier. Is there anything else you should be aware
of now that much of your journal and book collection is online?
Join our keynote speaker for a Q-and-A session on copyright. Participants
are encouraged to bring specific questions from their libraries
and institutions for answers and discussion.
--The Artistry of Negotiating Electronic Licenses
Discussion Leader: Kathy Strube, Aurora Libraries
Does it seem like buying online services and content is really more
like buying a car? Do you feel like you need more tips on how to
talk with sales people? Share ideas about coverage years, populations
served, access issues, and getting more for less from your electronic
vendors.
