Survival Camp Discussion Sessions

We will offer four discussion topics. Each discussion will be held three times on Monday afternoon.

Participants should be prepared to ask questions and share ideas on topics. If you have resources to share, please bring 20 copies per item.

--Camp RSS: Dynamic Uses for Content, Current Awareness & Research

Facilitator: Lauree Hart, Wheaton Franciscan Libraries

Know the term RSS, but not sure how to put it into use in your library? Did you know it's more than just a news flash? It's also for current awareness, table of contents services, guideline updates and research. Join Lauree for a discussion of real life uses of RSS feeds on your website and impress your tribe.

--Camp Google: Research Tools, Beta Updates & More

Facilitator: Felicia Vastalo, Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries

Everyone knows Google's web searching capabilities, but are you getting the most out of Google for your library? Join Felicia for a lively discussion on the newest "tricks of surviving." Come and share your experiences with how you use Google in your research process. We will also discuss how we are using Google's web development tools including Google mash-ups, API's, Co-Op, and customized searches and how these "survival" tools have added value to your library.

--Camp Impact: Measuring Your Impact
Facilitator: Ruth Holst, Greater Midwest Region

Linking the goals of the library to the mission of the parent institution will be the key to library survival in the coming decades. This roundtable will offer an opportunity to talk about how and why librarians should communicate the value of the library to their administrators.

--Camp Radical: Ideas for Change
Facilitator: Barb Ruggeri, Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries

Major changes in library operations are necessary for libraries to adapt to the many innovations in the
Information environment and to add value to our institutions. Join us to discuss innovations such as social cataloging, push technologies, virtual reference and to discuss how to identify opportunities in your organization for "thinking outside the box."
